Looking for Outdoor Events for Black Adults? Here’s Why the Brothas are Heading to the Woods This Year

Girl, pull up a chair and let me get into something with you. You know how we’re always looking for those "grown and sexy" vibes, but sometimes the club just feels… tired? The music is too loud, the drinks are too expensive, and everybody is too busy looking at their phones instead of actually connecting. Well, let me tell you what’s been happening lately. While we’re out here booking our girls’ trips and spa days, the brothas have discovered a secret. They are heading to the woods. And no, I don’t mean some Blair Witch situation. I’m talking about the Black outdoor community showing up in full force at Melanated Campout. If you’ve been searching for outdoor events for Black adults, you might have noticed a shift. It’s not just about the hiking or the tents anymore; it’s about the brotherhood. It’s about our men finding a space where they can finally let their guards down. So, whether you’re a brotha looking for your tribe or a sister looking to send her man somewhere he can actually recharge, here is why the woods are calling, and why the brothas are answering. The No-Judgment Zone: No Code-Switching Allowed Let’s keep it 100. For a lot of Black men, the world is a place where they always have to be "on." On at work, on in the streets, on as the protector. There’s a lot of code-switching and mask-wearing just to get through the day. But when they hit that campsite at Lake Blackshear, something magical happens. The mask comes off. At Melanated Campout, we pride ourselves on being a no-judgment zone. When the brothas see each other in the woods, it’s not about what you do for a living or what kind of car you drive (unless you brought a classic convertible through the camp, which we definitely love to see). It’s about "Hey, Bruh, you need help with that tent?" or "Man, let me show you how to get this grill started." It’s a level of peace that’s hard to find anywhere else. The Ritual of the Fire and the Magic of the Cigar If you want to know where the real deep conversations happen, look for the smoke. Not just from the BBQ pits, though the food is fire, but from the cigar circles. There is a specific kind of camping vibe that only happens after the sun goes down. The brothas gather around the campfire, the scent of expensive bourbon and premium cigars fills the air, and the talk gets deep. We’re talking about everything from fatherhood and business to mental health and the best 90s R&B groups. Around that fire, there’s no pressure. It’s just brothas being brothas. These are the moments where "strangers" become "cousins" by the time the embers fade out. It’s a bonding experience that you just can’t replicate at a sports bar or a backyard kickback. Reclaiming the Land: Fishing and "Living Your Best Life" One of the biggest myths out there is that Black folks don’t do the outdoors. Please. We are the outdoors. We are reclaiming our connection to the land, and the brothas are leading the charge. You’ll see them out at Lake Blackshear early in the morning, lines in the water, just enjoying the stillness. Fishing isn't just about the catch; it’s about the patience and the quiet. In a world that’s constantly screaming for our attention, sitting by the water is a form of protest and a form of prayer. And for the ones who want a little more action? They’re hitting the trails on electric bikes or organizing a massive water gun fight that would make their 10-year-old selves proud. RV Camping Tips for the "I Don't Do Tents" Brotha Now, look, we know some of the brothas (and the ladies!) are a little hesitant about sleeping on the ground. We get it! That’s why the RV culture at Melanated Campout is so huge. If you’re thinking about joining us but want to keep your AC and your own bathroom, an RV is the way to go. Here are a few quick RV camping tips for the first-timers: Rent before you buy: Use sites like Outdoorsy or RVshare to see what size fits your crew. Book your spot early: Our RV hookup spots go fast. Check the specs: Make sure you know if you need a 30-amp or 50-amp connection. Pack the "Outdoor Living Room": The RV is for sleeping, but the party happens under the awning. Bring the comfortable chairs, the outdoor rugs, and the Bluetooth speakers. Whether you’re in a luxury motorhome or a cozy tent, the energy is exactly the same. Check out our New Camper Guide if you’re feeling a little nervous about the logistics. Healing in the Great Outdoors We can’t talk about outdoor events for Black adults without talking about wellness. For the brothas, being in nature is a massive reset for the nervous system. There is actual science behind it, but we just call it "getting your mind right." At MC, we incorporate movement, laughter, and community because we know that’s what heals. Watching a group of men laughing so hard they’re crying during a team-building game or a water fight, that’s medicine. About Melanated Campout Melanated Campout is more than just a camping trip; it’s a movement. Founded with the mission to inspire more people of color to enjoy the great outdoors, we’ve created a space that blends adventure, wellness, and straight-up fun. We’re all about breaking barriers and building community, one campfire at a time. Whether you’re a seasoned pro or a "glamper" at heart, there’s a seat for you at our table. FAQ: What the Brothas Need to Know Is it all couples?Nope! We have singles, groups of friends, and couples. The brotherhood is strong regardless of your relationship status. Do I need to bring my own gear?If you’re tent camping, yes. But we have resources and checklists to help you out. If you’re not about

Why 1,000 Black Folks Camping at Lake Blackshear Will Change the Way You Think About Nature

Let me talk to you like we’re on the porch and the sun is going down. When people hear “camping,” they picture quiet woods, somebody’s dad in cargo shorts, and a vibe that feels… not for us. But 1,000 Black folks camping together at Lake Blackshear? Baby, that’s not the same old nature story. That’s a whole rewrite. Because when you’re surrounded by your people, laughing, dancing, hydrating, eating good, and still waking up to birds and lake views, you stop asking, “Do I belong out here?” and start saying, “Why did I wait so long?” This is what Melanated Campout does. And yes, it’ll change the way you think about nature. Nature hits different when you’re not the only Black face out there A lot of us grew up loving a park day but feeling weird about “the woods.” And I’m not gonna act like that came from nowhere. For generations, access to outdoor spaces wasn’t equal, period. Even today, the feeling of being unwelcome in certain spaces is real for a lot of Black travelers and outdoor lovers. The National Park Service has a whole page acknowledging the history of segregation in parks and public lands (it’s heavy, but worth reading): https://www.nps.gov/subjects/civilrights/segregation.htm So when we bring a whole crowd, I’m talking aunties, nurses, HR queens, entrepreneurs, empty nesters, divorced-and-thriving besties, into nature together, it does something to your nervous system. You’re not “the only one.”You’re not “a guest.”You’re home. And when that clicks? You start planning your next camping trip before you even leave. The energy of 1,000 people in nature is a whole different kind of healing You ever been to a cookout where the music is right, the food is on point, everybody looks good, and you just think, Yeah… this is Black joy? Now put that same energy… on a lakeside resort… under the stars. That’s the part folks don’t understand until they experience it. A camping festival isn’t just “sleeping outside.” It’s community, grown-folks fun, and a soft place to land. At Lake Blackshear Resort, you get that mix of “I’m outside” and “I still like comfort.” And for my first-timers (because I see you), that’s a big deal. If you need the newbie breakdown, we made it simple right here: https://melanatedcampout.com/new-camper-guide Lake Blackshear Resort makes camping feel approachable (even if you’re not “outdoorsy”) Some of us hear “camping” and immediately think: bugs in your eyelashes sleeping on the ground like a pioneer eating cold beans out the can (why do people do that??) At Melanated Campout, we’re not doing struggle camping. It’s Georgia camping with options, tents, RVs, and plenty of space to make your site cute and comfy. And the location is part of the magic: Lake Blackshear in Cordele, GA is that easy weekend-trip sweet spot (especially if you’re coming from Atlanta or surrounding areas). If you want the official event details, this page lays it out: https://melanatedcampout.com/black-camping-event-georgia Signature moments that make people say “okay… I get it now” Let’s get into the stuff that turns “I might pull up” into “I’m coming every year.” The water gun battle is grown folks therapy ![Adults at Melanated Campout Water Gun Fight I need you to picture this: you’re outside in the sunshine, surrounded by Black folks acting a fool in the best way, teams formed, bandanas on, and everybody is fully committed like it’s the Olympics. The water gun battle is one of those moments where you remember: you’re allowed to play you’re allowed to laugh hard you’re allowed to be silly without being judged It’s not “extra.” It’s necessary. Campfire at midnight = the real conversations There’s something about a campfire that makes people soften. Midnight hits, the day is winding down, and suddenly you’re talking about: how tired you were before you came how you forgot what it feels like to be around people who get you how you’re going home lighter than you arrived This is the part you can’t really put on a flyer. You have to live it. Dinner in orange looks like a whole Black Pinterest board came to life ![Melanated Campout Silent Disco Party When we say “dinner in orange,” we mean everybody showing up like, “Okay, I understood the assignment.” Orange outfits everywhere. Melanin glowing. Tables full. Music playing. People laughing like cousins who haven’t seen each other since the family reunion. And it’s not about being “fancy.” It’s about being intentional: we celebrate ourselves we show up for each other we make nature feel like our space That’s the cultural shift. Right there. Adult-only (21+) means you can actually exhale This matters, so I’m gonna say it plainly: Melanated Campout is 21+. Not because we don’t love the babies. We do. But this weekend is for the adults who are always responsible for everybody else. It’s for the ones who need: uninterrupted sleep quiet mornings by the lake room to be cute without parenting in shifts conversations that aren’t cut off every 3 minutes It’s a Black adults outdoor event where relaxation isn’t an afterthought, it’s built in. “But I’ve never been camping…” Good. You’re exactly who this is for. If you’re a beginner, you don’t need to show up as Bear Grylls. You just need to show up. A few quick first-timer truths: You can be a camping newbie and still have a good time You don’t need the most expensive gear to be comfortable You will learn just by being around experienced campers You can do this in a way that matches your lifestyle (RV, tent, or a comfy setup) And if you want to dip in without doing the whole thing, there’s an option for that too: https://melanatedcampout.com/weekend-pass-only Why this changes the way you think about nature (for real) When 1,000 Black folks gather in the outdoors, it shifts the narrative in a few powerful ways: Representation becomes normal. No more feeling like “the only one” hiking to the bathroom at night. Nature becomes a social space, not a

Community Matters: Why an Adult Camping Retreat Beats a Predictable Milestone Dinner Every Time

Sis, pull up a chair and let’s get real for a second. You know that feeling when a big birthday starts creeping up on the calendar? Whether you’re staring down the barrel of the Dirty 30, the Fabulous 40, or the Golden 50, the pressure is heavy. Suddenly, the group chat starts buzzing. Someone suggests that same steakhouse downtown where you’ve been five times already. Someone else mentions a "nice lounge" where you’ll spend $200 on a bottle of Tito’s just to stand in a corner because there’s nowhere to sit, shouting over the music just to ask your bestie how her mama’s doing. Is that really how we’re celebrating our growth? By shouting over a DJ in a dark room and leaving with a headache and a receipt that looks like a car payment? Chile, no. We’ve outgrown that. If you’re looking for birthday travel ideas that actually mean something, it’s time to trade the stilettoes for some fly sneakers and the crowded booths for a campfire. Let me tell you why an adult camping retreat, specifically a weekend with 1,000 of your favorite "cousins" at Melanated Campout, beats a predictable milestone dinner every single time. The Magic of the "Liminal Space" (Or, Just Let Your Hair Down!) There’s some actual science behind why being out in the woods feels different than being in the city. Researchers call these "liminal spaces." It’s basically a fancy way of saying a place where the normal rules of your daily life don’t apply. When you’re at a restaurant, you’re still "Manager You" or "Mama You." You’re checking your watch, worrying about traffic, and making sure your outfit is perfectly tucked. But when you step onto the grounds of a black camping festival, something shifts. The air hits different. The trees don’t care about your job title. At an adult camping retreat, you’re given permission to just be. You get to play. And for us Black women, who are always carrying the world on our shoulders, that permission is the best birthday gift you could ever give yourself. 1,000 'Cousins' vs. a Table for Ten Don't get me wrong, I love my inner circle. But there is a specific type of joy that comes from being surrounded by a sea of Black excellence in nature. We call everyone "cousin" for a reason, because by the time Friday night rolls around, that’s exactly what it feels like. At a milestone dinner, you’re limited to whoever is sitting directly to your left or right. At Melanated Campout, your "party" is 1,000 people deep. You’re walking to the lake and get a "Hey Sis, love that wrap!" You’re at the gallery area and end up in a twenty-minute conversation about life, love, and the best leave-in conditioner with someone you just met five minutes ago. This is where deep, authentic community happens. It’s built during the morning walks, the shared meals, and the late-night campfire sessions where the masks finally come off. You don't just leave with memories; you leave with a whole new village. The Glow-Up: Glow Parties and Lip-Sync Battles Now, just because we’re in the woods doesn’t mean we aren’t turning up! If you think camping is just sitting in the dark listening to crickets, you haven’t seen us do it. Imagine your 40th birthday celebration looking like this: The 90s Glow Party: We’re talking neon, inflatable boomboxes, and the best R&B hits that make you remember exactly where you were when Real Love dropped. The Lip-Sync Battle: This isn’t your average karaoke. This is full-on performance art, Cousin! It’s the kind of laughter that makes your stomach ache in the best way possible. The Silent Party: Two campers, one vibe, and the stars overhead. It’s an experience you just can’t replicate in a basement club in the city. (Visual Suggestion: A group of friends at a campsite, one wearing a "Birthday Queen" sash, holding a colorful drink, with a small cake on a decorated picnic table and string lights in the background.) Why Georgia is the Move for Summer 2026 If you’re scouting for unique festivals in Georgia or planning ahead for summer festivals Georgia 2026, you need to have Cordele on your radar. Lake Blackshear is the backdrop, and let me tell you, the sunset over that water is better than any rooftop view in Atlanta. Planning a milestone trip can be a headache, but we make it easy. Whether you’re a pro camper or a "I need a real bed" kind of girl, we’ve got you. You can go the traditional route with a tent, or you can level up to the RV life. Check out our New Camper Guide if you're nervous, we promise we won't leave you hanging. The "I Don't Do Outside" Myth I hear you, Sis. "Jocelyn, I don’t do bugs. I don’t do dirt." But let’s be real: you do "outside" every time you walk from your car to the office. The difference is that at Melanated Campout, "outside" is curated for us. It’s about comfort, safety, and sisterhood. We have organized meal plans so you aren’t struggling over a propane stove if you don’t want to. We have clean facilities. We have a vibe that is purely "Blackity-Black" and proud. When you celebrate a milestone birthday here, you aren't just marking another year older. You’re reclaiming your sense of adventure. You’re proving that you’re never too old to try something new, to dance in a foam party, or to make a new best friend while roasting a s'more. FAQs About Celebrating Your Birthday at Melanated Campout Can I bring my whole squad?Absolutely! In fact, we encourage it. Grab your weekend passes early. It’s one of the best birthday travel ideas for groups because there’s something for everyone to do, from yoga to e-bike rides. What if I’ve never camped before? Then you’re in the right place! A huge percentage of our campers are first-timers. We’re a community that helps each other. If you’re struggling

Does a Black-Only Camping Event Still Matter in 2026? Here’s What 8 Years of Magic Taught Us

Chile, pull up a chair. Grab your fan and a glass of something cold, because we need to have a real “porch talk” moment. It’s 2026. We’ve got cars that almost drive themselves, AI writing our grocery lists, and the world is moving faster than a Southern grandma when she hears the first notes of “Before I Let Go.” But in the middle of all this “future,” people keep asking me the same question: “Jocelyn, does a Black-only camping event still really matter?” After eight years of building Melanated Campout, eight years of watching sunsets over Lake Blackshear, and eight years of seeing our people reclaim the great outdoors, my answer is a resounding, “Now more than ever, baby.” Let me tell you why. Eight Years of ‘Blackity-Black’ Magic When we started this journey nearly a decade ago, people looked at us like we had two heads. “Black people don’t camp,” they said. Or, “Why does it have to be just for us?” But we knew something they didn’t. We knew that for too long, the woods didn’t always feel like a place where we could just be. Whether it was the history we carry in our bones or just the feeling of being the “only one” at a predominantly white campground, there was a gap. We weren’t just missing out on the fresh air; we were missing out on the peace that belongs to us, too. Fast forward to today, and Melanated Campout has turned into a whole movement. What started as a small gathering has evolved into a full-blown homecoming. When you walk through our campsite in Cordele, Georgia, you aren’t just seeing tents and RVs. You’re seeing legacy. You’re seeing three generations of a family sharing a meal. You’re seeing Black men greeting each other with that “I see you, King” energy that heals the soul. Why Black Outdoor Spaces Still Matter I saw a report recently from Kampgrounds of America (KOA) saying that even in 2024, only 11% of campers were Black. Now, we know we’ve been outside more since then, but that number still hits different. The camping industry has historically leaned one way, and while the world is changing, there is something sacred about a space designed specifically for our comfort, our music, and our joy. At a Black camping event in Georgia, you don’t have to explain your hair wrap. You don’t have to worry if your music is “too loud” when the Frankie Beverly starts playing. You don’t have to code-switch. You just get to breathe. That’s not about exclusion; it’s about sanctuary. In 2026, the world is loud. Our phones are buzzing, the news is heavy, and the grind is real. Melanated Campout is the “Do Not Disturb” sign for your soul. It’s where we remind ourselves that we deserve to take up space, not just in the boardroom or on the stage, but under the stars. This Isn’t Just a Festival, It’s a Reunion A lot of people hear “camping festival” and they think of mud, loud EDM music, and people losing their minds. That’s not us, Cousin. Think of MC more like a massive, high-energy family reunion where you actually like everyone there. Yes, we’ve got the Motor Speedway Madness and the themed parties, but we also have the “Soft Life” moments. We’re talking about: The Silent Party: Where you can catch two people dancing closely by their tent, just vibing to the same beat in their headphones. The Food: Because you know we aren’t just eating beans out of a can. Our meal plans are a whole love language. The Connection: Walking through the gallery of memories from the last eight years and seeing how many friendships, and even some “Campout Couples”, started right here on this grass. “But Jocelyn, I Don’t Do Tents!” Girl, I hear you! If I had a nickel for every time a sister told me, “I don’t do outside because of the bugs and the ground,” I’d be retired on a private island. But listen, it’s 2026, we have options! Whether you are a hardcore tent camper or a “I need my AC and a bathroom” kind of traveler, there’s a spot for you. We see more and more of our community leaning into the RV life. There is nothing like pulling up in your rig, setting up your outdoor rug, and having your home on wheels right there in the middle of the magic. And if you are a total newbie? We’ve got you. Check out our New Camper Guide before you pack a single bag. We take the “scary” out of the woods and replace it with wonder. Homecoming 2026: The Legacy Energy This year is special. We’re calling it Homecoming 2026. After eight years, we aren’t just an event anymore; we’re a tradition. We’re inviting the “O.G.” campers back to see how much we’ve grown, and we’re opening the gates wide for the first-timers who have been watching our videos on TikTok and Instagram for years, wondering if they should finally take the plunge. The energy this year is about reunion. It’s about looking at how far we’ve come as a community. We’ve gone from being “the only ones” at the park to owning the whole park for a weekend. That’s power. That’s magic. Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) Is this only for experienced campers? Absolutely not! Most of our campers were “indoor people” until they found us. We provide plenty of resources, and our “Camp Cousins” (the veteran campers) are always willing to lend a hand or a tent stake. What should I bring? Comfort is queen. Check out our packing list ideas, but the basics are a good attitude, some sturdy shoes, and your best “Blackity-Black” camp outfits. Where exactly is it? We gather at the beautiful Lake Blackshear in Cordele, Georgia. It’s a stunning backdrop for all the activities we have planned. Are kids allowed? While we love the babies, Melanated Campout is designed as an adult-centered

Why Melanated Campout Will Change the Way Your Squad Does Group Travel Experiences

Girl, pull up a chair. Let’s talk real for a second. If you’re the one in the group chat who is always sending the “Hey ladies, what do we think about this destination?” messages, only to be met with three "likes," two "maybe next years," and a whole lot of silence from the one friend who swears she’s down but never has her deposit ready, this post is for you. We call you "The General." You’re the researcher, the budget-balancer, the itinerary-maker, and the unofficial debt collector. You’re tired. You want to go somewhere fly, you want to be around your people, and you want to actually enjoy the vacation instead of managing it like a second shift at the office. This is exactly why Melanated Campout is about to become your new best friend. We’ve reimagined group travel experiences specifically for us, and we’ve stripped away every single thing that makes planning a group trip a headache. The "Group Chat" Tax is Officially Cancelled Let’s be honest: the hardest part of black travel groups isn’t picking the place; it’s the logistics. Usually, when the squad wants to go to Mexico or a big music festival, someone has to put the villa on their credit card and hope everyone Zelles them back before the interest hits. Or you’re trying to coordinate ten different flight arrival times so you can share one shuttle. At Melanated Campout, we do things differently. Here’s the magic word: Individual Tickets. When you decide the squad is heading to Lake Blackshear for the Melanated Campout, everyone goes to the website and buys their own ticket. You don’t have to chase anyone for a dime. You don’t have to keep a spreadsheet of who paid their deposit and who’s "waiting on that tax return." If they’re in, they buy their ticket. If they’re not, they stay in the group chat and watch the IG stories later. You, The General, just have to show up and look cute. Individual Responsibility, Collective Vibe Now, just because everyone handles their own bag doesn’t mean you aren’t together. That’s the beauty of group camping events. You and the squad can coordinate to arrive together and set up your tents in one big circle. This is where the magic happens. While you each have your own private sleeping space (no sharing a bed with a kicker!), you create a shared "living room" in the middle. Think: an outdoor rug, a few comfortable camp chairs, some string lights, and a cooler that’s always stocked. You get the community feel of a big sleepover without the "who used my toothbrush" drama of sharing a hotel room. It’s one of our favorite camping with friends tips: create that central hub where the mimosas flow and the laughter never stops. It’s Not Just "Camping", It’s a Culture Fest If your friends are hesitating because they think "camping" means rubbing two sticks together to start a fire or eating beans out of a can, tell them to breathe. We’re not doing "survivor" style out here. We’re doing a full-blown festival. We’re talking: The Hip Hop Glow Party: Where the outfit is just as important as the tent. Yoga and Wellness: To reset that energy after a long work week. The Silent Disco: Because dancing under the stars hits different. Empowerment Chats: Because we can't gather without lifting each other up. Whether you’re a seasoned pro or a first-timer looking for a new camper guide, there is literally something for everyone. If you have that one friend who refuses to sleep in a tent, tell her to check out the RV options. You get all the perks of the outdoors with a real mattress and air conditioning. Visual: A group of friends laughing, setting up a shared 'living room' space between tents with comfortable chairs and a canopy. Why April is the Perfect Time to Start Planning It’s currently April 2026, and the sun is starting to peek out. This is the "General's" prime time. Why? Because the early bird gets the best spot, and the best price. One of the best things about our group travel experiences is that they are accessible, but the prices do go up as we get closer to the event. If you tell the squad now, they have plenty of time to get their gear together and lock in their spot before the June 1st price increase. Plus, for the friends who are still on the fence about "nature," April is when you show them the gallery. Let them see the joy, the melanin, and the lake views. This isn't just about sleeping outside; it's about reclaiming our space in the great outdoors. Tips for the Squad Leader (The General) If you’re ready to pitch this to the group, here’s how to win them over: Drop the FAQ Link: Most people are scared of what they don’t know. Send them our FAQ page so they can see we’ve thought of everything, from bathrooms to food. Focus on the Meal Plan: Let them know they don’t even have to cook! They can grab a meal plan and leave the grill at home. The "Individual Ticket" Sell: Use this as the clincher. "Hey y'all, I'm going to this. Here's the link to get your own ticket. I'm arriving at 2 PM on Friday to grab our spot: hope to see you there!" It takes the pressure off you and puts the fun back into the plan. About Melanated Campout Melanated Campout is a black-owned, woman-owned event planning company dedicated to bringing more color to the great outdoors. The Road to 1,000 Cousins: Why the 2026 Homecoming is the Reunion Your Soul Needs

Hey, Camp Cousins! Can y’all feel that energy in the air? We are officially on the road to our 2026 Homecoming, and let me tell you, the vibe is already shifting. When we started this journey, it was about showing the world that yes, Black people do camp. But over the years, it’s turned into something so much deeper. It’s turned into a movement of joy, a sanctuary for sisterhood, and a place where we finally give ourselves permission to just be. For 2026, we’ve set a big, beautiful goal: 1,000 Camp Cousins. Now, I know some of you might be thinking, "Jocelyn, a thousand people in the woods? Is there enough sage in the world for that?" But trust me, when we gather at Lake Blackshear from September 25-27, 2026, it’s not going to feel like a crowd. It’s going to feel like the biggest, best family reunion you’ve ever been to, minus that one uncle who always asks for a loan. This is about creating a space so large and so loving that every Black woman who has ever felt "poured out" can come and get her cup refilled. A "Blackity-Black" Space Built Just for Us Let’s be real for a second: the world can be a lot. Between being the backbone of our families, the leaders in our workplaces, and the glue in our communities, we are tired. Our 2026 Homecoming is designed to be your "Return to Joy." It’s a "Blackity-Black" experience because everything from the music to the conversations is rooted in our culture. We aren't out here trying to "survive" the wilderness; we are out here thriving in it. We’re talking about sunrise yoga by the lake, line dancing under the stars, and our signature "Dinner in Orange" where we show up and show out, looking like the royalty we are. It’s about seeing 500, and soon 1,000, faces that look like yours, all sharing that same "exhale." Real Talk: The "No-Stress" Camping Experience I hear the whispers! I know some of y’all are still side-eyeing the idea of camping. You’re wondering about your hair, your sleep, and, most importantly, the bathroom situation. Listen, I’m 45, and I am not about that "dig a hole in the ground" life. At Melanated Campout, we do things a little differently. We’re talking: Real bathrooms and hot showers: Yes, you can wash the day off and do your full 10-step skincare routine. Glamping and RV options: If you aren't a tent girlie, we’ve got you covered. Check out our guide to different sleeping options. Safe spaces: This is a gated, curated experience where your safety and comfort are the top priority. I remember a cousin who came last year. She arrived with her car packed to the brim, looking so stressed. She told me, "Jocelyn, I’ve never slept in a tent in my life, but I just needed to get away from the noise." By Saturday night, she was the life of the party at the 90s themed night, rocking a full TLC 'Creep' fit and laughing harder than I’ve ever seen. She didn't just find a campsite; she found herself again. That’s what 1,000 cousins means: 1,000 stories of reconnection. Why 1,000 Cousins? Because Our Community Deserves This Setting a goal for 1,000 cousins isn't about the numbers; it's about the impact. There is something spiritual that happens when Black women gather in nature. We spend so much time in "strong Black woman" mode that we forget how to be soft. When you sit by that fire at Lake Blackshear, something happens. You start talking to the woman next to you: a stranger who felt like a cousin five minutes after meeting: and you realize you’re carrying the same burdens. And then, you decide to leave those burdens right there in the Georgia woods. That is the spirit of the Camp Cousin way. Whether you’re a camping pro or a complete newbie, you belong here. We have ladies who show up in full glam with mini flat irons: because we camp different!: and ladies who want to go completely minimalist. Both are welcome. Both are celebrated. The 2026 Homecoming: Mark Your Calendars We are heading to Lake Blackshear, GA, September 25-27, 2026. This is the big one. This is the reunion. This is the release. Imagine a thousand of us. Imagine the laughter echoing off the water. Imagine the collective peace of a thousand Black women who have finally decided that their rest is non-negotiable. We are building this for the culture, by the culture. If you’ve been sitting on the fence, let this be your sign. You don't need to know how to pitch a tent (we can help with that!). You don't even need to know how to start a fire. You just need to show up with an open heart and a pair of comfortable shoes (and maybe a cute outfit for the orange dinner). We are healing, we are reconnecting, and we are doing it together. I can’t wait to see 1,000 of my favorite cousins in 2026. Let’s make history together, y’all. Don’t wait too long. This homecoming is going to be one for the books, and spots will fill up fast. Tell the group chat. It’s time to do something for YOU. Grab your spot for the 2026 Homecoming!
