First Time Here?
If you’re wondering whether you’ll fit in, whether you can come solo, or whether this is really your kind of vibe — start here, Camp Cousin. This section is for the folks who want the real feel before they book.
Absolutely. A whole lot of our campers come solo and leave with new Camp Cousins. You will not be the only one pulling up by yourself, and you will not feel weird for doing it. This is one of those spaces where conversations happen naturally and folks make room for each other.
Nope. This is not the kind of event where everybody already knows each other and you’re left standing there looking confused. The energy is welcoming on purpose. People come to connect, not posture. You can be quiet, social, warm up slow, or jump right in — there’s room for all of that.
Good people. Grown folks. Professionals, creatives, couples, friend groups, first-timers, returning campers — all pulling up for joy, connection, and a reset. The common thread is simple: people who want good energy, real community, and a weekend that actually feels good.
Think reunion energy, laughter, music, deep exhales, and people who don’t need you to explain yourself. It’s joyful, welcoming, and well-planned. Yes, we’re outside. No, we’re not out there struggling. You can come to turn up, rest, connect, or do a little bit of all of it.
Not at all. The whole point is community, not cool-kid politics. Folks come from different cities, backgrounds, and camping levels, but the vibe is warm and welcoming. If you’ve been craving a space where you can just be and breathe a little deeper, that’s what this is built for.
It happens naturally — during setup, over meals, at activities, in passing, at the watergun battle, during line dancing, by the fire, all of it. You do not need a script. You just need to show up. The way this weekend is designed, connection is built into the experience.
If you’ve been needing a weekend that feels like joy, community, and a reset all in one — it’s probably for you. If you want good vibes, grown energy, and a space where Black folks can rest, roam, laugh, and reconnect without all the extra… yeah, you’re in the right place.
New to Camping?
Let’s clear this up right now — you do NOT need to be an experienced camper to come to Melanated Campout. We built this for real people, not survival experts.
Perfect. First-timers are our favorite. You’re not expected to “figure it out” on your own. Between the Camper Guide, community support, and how the weekend is structured — you’ll be just fine.
Not necessarily. You can bring your own setup, OR choose upgraded options like glamping, RV, or villas. Some people go full setup… some just show up with a bag. Both are normal here.
No struggle camping over here. This is outdoors, but organized. You’ll have access to real restrooms, showers, and options to upgrade your comfort level. You choose your experience.
You’ll be okay. People share. The community helps. And we plan for real life — not perfection. Just bring the basics and a good attitude.
Start simple: clothes, toiletries, somewhere to sleep (if you’re not upgrading), and your personal essentials. We’ll guide you through the rest — and the Camper Guide breaks it all down step by step.
That’s normal. New experiences can feel like that. But this space is designed to be welcoming, not overwhelming. You can ease into the weekend at your own pace — there’s no pressure to do everything.
You don’t need to be “outdoorsy.” You don’t need expensive gear. You don’t need experience. You just need to show up. We’ll help you handle the rest.
