Zoey

Girl, pull up a chair and let me pour you something cold. We need to talk, real talk, about what’s been happening out in the woods.

If you’ve been scrolling through your feed lately and seeing beautiful Black faces glowing under the Georgia sun, dancing like nobody’s watching, and laughing so hard they’re doubled over, you’re probably wondering: What is actually going on at Melanated Campout?

Is it just a camping trip? Is it a festival? Is it a family reunion?

The truth is, it’s all of that and a whole lot more. It’s been eight years since we started this journey, and every time I look around at my "cousins" (that’s what we call every single person who joins us), I’m reminded that we didn’t just build an event. We built a home. We built a sanctuary where you can finally put down the weight of the world and just… breathe.

Let’s get into why everybody is talking about us and why your soul is literally screaming for this kind of "Blackity-Black" magic in 2026.

It’s More Than Camping, It’s a Soul-Care Revolution

For a long time, the narrative was that "Black people don’t do the outdoors." We’ve all heard it, and honestly, some of us believed it because the outdoors didn't always feel like a place built for us. But Melanated Campout was born out of a desire to flip that script.

We wanted to create a space where you don’t have to worry about whether you "belong" in nature. At our campout, the answer is always a resounding yes.

When we say it’s a "Blackity-Black" experience, we mean it. We bring the seasoning, the music, the culture, and the community to the great outdoors. It’s not just about pitching a tent (though we’ll teach you how to do that in our Camping 101 workshops!); it’s about reclaiming our connection to the earth in a way that feels authentic to who we are.

The "Cousin" Connection: Finding Your Tribe

One of the questions I get asked the most is, "Jocelyn, I’m coming alone. Will I feel awkward?"

Let me tell you something: You might arrive as a stranger, but you will leave with 500 new cousins. I’ve seen it happen year after year. People come from all over: Atlanta, New York, Florida, even Cali: and by the time we’re hitting the Motor Speedway Madness or the "Dinner in Orange," everyone is family.

There’s something about being away from the concrete and the "hustle culture" that breaks down walls. I remember a camper last year who told me she hadn’t felt safe enough to cry in years. After one of our healing hikes and a night around the campfire, she felt like she could finally let go. That’s the magic of being surrounded by people who truly see you.

Safety, Comfort, and "Seasoned" Fun

Let’s be real for a second. Some of y'all are "inside cats," and the idea of sleeping on the ground sounds like a nightmare. We get it! That’s why we offer everything from traditional tent camping to luxury glamping and RV options.

We prioritize your comfort and safety above everything else. We’re talking:

And the activities? Girl, we don't just sit around and stare at trees. We have a lineup that stays true to our vibes:

Why 2026 is the Year to Finally Say "Yes"

Life is heavy right now. Between work, family, and the news, your nervous system is probably fried. You need a minute to unplug. You need to disconnect from the Wi-Fi to reconnect with yourself.

Outdoor events for Black adults are growing in popularity for a reason: we are realizing that joy is a form of resistance. Resting is a form of revolution.

When you’re at Melanated Campout, the only thing on your "To-Do" list is to choose which workshop to attend or whether you want to take a nap in your hammock by Lake Blackshear.
