Girl, pull up a chair and let me pour you something cold. We need to talk about this magic we’ve been building. You know how some things just feel like home from the second you step foot on the grass? That’s what we’re talking about today.
We’re staring down the barrel of our Homecoming 2026, and looking back at how far we’ve come, from a simple birthday trip at Red Top Mountain to the largest Black-centric adult camping festival in the South, it’s enough to make a girl get all misty-eyed. Whether you’ve been with us since day one or you’re still staring at that tent in the box from last Christmas, you need to know: this isn’t just a black camping event; it’s a family reunion for the soul.
Eight Years of Magic: More Than Just a Camping Trip
It’s hard to believe we’ve been at this for eight years. What started as a "hey, let's go camping for my birthday" vibe between friends has turned into a full-blown movement. We realized early on that Black people didn’t just need a place to sleep outside; we needed a place to be outside: unapologetically, loudly, and joyfully.
For nearly a decade, Melanated Campout has been the "Blackity-Black" answer to the Great Outdoors. We’ve traded "survival mode" for "thrival mode." We’ve watched strangers become best friends over a burnt marshmallow and seen couples fall in love under the Georgia stars. When we say "8 years of magic," we aren’t talking about the scenery (though Lake Blackshear is stunning, honey). We’re talking about the community. We’re talking about the 500+ "cousins" you didn't know you had until you pulled up to the gate.
From "I've Never Done This" to "Where’s My Cousin?"
I see you, Sis. I see you scrolling through the photos, wondering if you can really do the whole "outdoor" thing. You’re worried about the bugs, the bathrooms, and whether you’ll look silly trying to set up a tent.
Listen to me: every single one of us was a first-timer once.

The heart of the Melanated Campout is our newcomers. We’ve built this entire experience so you don't have to "struggle-camp." We’ve got Camping 101 workshops and a New Camper Guide that breaks it all down. By the time Friday night’s glow party hits, you won't even remember you were nervous. You’ll be too busy dancing with a group of women who just became your sisters.

The Homecoming Vibe: Why 2026 Hits Different
Why are we calling our September 25–27, 2026 event "Homecoming"? Because after eight years, that’s exactly what it is.
In our culture, Homecoming is more than a football game; it’s a return to the people who know your name and your spirit. For 2026, we’re leaning all the way into that energy. We’re bringing back the legendary lip-sync battles, the early morning lakeside yoga, and that "block party in the woods" feel that nobody else does like us.

Whether you’re staying in a tent, an RV, or opting for a nearby hotel, you are part of the circle. We’re creating a space where you can unplug from the stress of the world and plug back into your joy.
Nature, but Make it Blackity-Black
We do things a little differently here. Sure, we appreciate a good hike, but have you ever tried a water gun fight with 100 of your favorite people?

Our schedule is packed with activities that celebrate us:
- Themed Night Parties: From the "I Love the 90s" vibe to glow-in-the-dark extravaganzas.
- Wellness & Self-Care: Nature is healing, especially when you’re doing outdoor yoga with people who look like you.
- Connection: Fishing by the dock, sharing recipes by the campfire, and just breathing.
We believe that taking up space in nature is a form of self-care. It’s about reclaiming our right to rest and play. If you've been feeling burnt out, this is the weekend getaway your soul has been begging for.
Why a Safe Space in the Outdoors Matters
Let’s keep it real: the outdoors hasn’t always felt like a welcoming place for us. For too long, the image of "camping" didn't include our skin, our hair, or our music.
Melanated Campout changed the narrative. We provide the security, the clean restrooms, the hot showers, and: most importantly: the emotional safety of being surrounded by your tribe. You don't have to explain your joy here. You don't have to tone down your laugh. You just have to show up as your full, beautiful self.

From the first-timer who nervously unzips their tent on Friday to the "pro" who’s helping their neighbor on Sunday, we are building a legacy of Black outdoor excellence.
