First Time at Melanated Campout?
This section is for the folks wondering if they’ll fit in, if they can come alone, and whether this is really their vibe. Start here, Camp Cousin. Deep breath. Shoulders down. We got you.
Can I come alone?
Absolutely. A whole lot of our campers pull up solo and leave with new Camp Cousins, new group chats, and at least one person saying, “Girl, where have you been all my life?” You will not be the only one coming by yourself.
Will I feel out of place if I don’t know anybody?
Nope. This is not one of those events where everybody already knows each other and you’re stuck standing there looking like an unclaimed carry-on bag. The room is warm on purpose.
What kind of people come to Melanated Campout?
Good grown folks. Professionals, creatives, couples, solo travelers, friend groups, first-timers, and returning campers who want joy, community, laughter, and a reset that doesn’t require a vision board and tears.
Is this cliquey?
Not at all. The whole point is community, not cool-kid politics. Folks are welcoming, and connection happens naturally all weekend long.
What’s the vibe really like?
Think reunion energy, laughter, music, games, deep exhales, and people who don’t need you to explain yourself. It’s outdoors, but organized. Joyful, but with structure. Soft life in a lawn chair.
How do people usually connect?
During setup, over meals, at activities, by the fire, in line, during the watergun battle, while dancing, all of it. You do not need a script. You just need to show up and let the weekend do what it does.
How do I know if this is for me?
If you’ve been craving a weekend where you can relax, laugh, connect, and just be — without all the extra — you’re probably in the right place. If your nervous system has been whispering “help,” this may be your sign.
Sounding like your kind of weekend?
Go ahead and pick your spot. You do not need to overthink your way out of joy.
What Is Community Camping?
Let’s clear this up, because this one trips people up. Community camping does not mean you’re sharing one giant tent with strangers or living on top of people all weekend. It means you have your own sleeping space, but the overall campground is active, social, and shared in the best way.
So… what does “community camping” actually mean?
It means you camp near other campers in a welcoming, social environment where people connect naturally. You still have your own sleeping space, your own setup, and your own room to breathe.
Am I sharing a tent or room with strangers?
No. Unless you personally booked with other people, your sleeping space is yours and your group’s. Community camping is about the atmosphere, not forced sleepover behavior.
Will people be all in my space?
You have your personal space, yes. But the campground itself is shared. Sites may be surrounded by RVs and other tents, and campers are everywhere — in a fun, lively, “we outside together” kind of way. Campers in the surrounding space also share common features like the firepit, tables, and grill. So no, nobody should be in your sleeping setup. But yes, you will absolutely see people. This is community camping, not a private island with a butler named Reginald.
What if I’m social but still like my quiet time?
Perfect. That’s actually ideal. You can tap into the energy when you want to and step back when you need to. This is not a nonstop performance weekend. Nobody’s grading you on extroversion.
Is community camping beginner-friendly?
Very. One of the best things about community camping is that you’re not out there feeling alone or confused. There are people around, support around, and good energy around.
What’s the benefit of community camping?
It makes camping feel less intimidating and way more fun. You get your own space, but you also get laughter, visibility, connection, and that “we outside together” feeling that makes the weekend hit different.
Now that that’s clear…
Community camping is the sweet spot: your own space, plus the energy of being outside together.
New to Camping? We Got You.
You do not need to know how to camp before you get here. You do not need to be an outdoors expert. You do not need to be on your survivalist journey. We are not handing out wilderness merit badges.
Do I have to know how to camp to come?
Nope. Not even a little bit. This is built to be first-timer friendly.
What if I’ve never camped before… like at all?
Perfect. First-timers are welcome here. We’ll help you feel prepared without making it weird or overwhelming.
Is this roughing-it camping?
No struggle camping over here. There are real restrooms, hot showers, and options to make your setup more comfortable depending on how you book.
Are there real bathrooms?
Yes. Real bathrooms. Real showers. Real relief. We love nature, but not enough to pretend porta-potty suffering is character development.
Do I need a bunch of camping gear?
Not necessarily. Some folks keep it simple. Some go all out. You just need the basics for the lodging option you choose.
Can I bring my own tent or rent one?
Yes, bring your own tent or rent one. Both are welcome. Pick the option that matches your budget, your energy, and your desire to not be on YouTube at midnight learning how poles work.
Can I bring my own RV or rent one?
Yes. Bring your own RV or rent one. Either way, you can pull up in comfort and let the weekend do what it does.
What’s the easiest setup?
Glamping tents, tent rentals, or RV rentals are your easiest options. They deliver and set up your RV or tent — you just show up and enjoy. Very soft. Very civilized. Very “I’m outside, but make it manageable.”
What if I forget something?
You’ll be okay. Bring the basics and don’t spiral. This community is generous, and we plan for real life.
What if I feel overwhelmed?
That’s normal with any new experience. You can ease into the weekend at your own pace. No pressure to do everything.
Can I still enjoy this if I’m not “outdoorsy”?
Absolutely. A lot of people come for the people, the joy, the vibe, and the reset — not because they’ve been hiking since kindergarten.
Need the step-by-step version?
The New Camper Guide breaks this down even more, so you can stop guessing and start getting excited.
Lodging, Setup & Comfort
However you like to be outside — simple, soft, or somewhere in between — there’s an option for that. Some of them are already moving fast, so don’t blink cute and miss your favorite one.
What lodging options are available?
Lodging options include tent sites, RV sites, hotel room / villa options, cabins, and glamping tents. Some of these options are sold out or have limited inventory, so move fast if you see what you want.
Can I bring my own tent or rent one?
Yes. Bring your own tent or rent one. We support both the “I came prepared” campers and the “please make this easier for me” campers.
Can I bring my own RV or rent one?
Yes. Bring your own RV or rent one. Either way, you can pull up and get comfortable.
What’s the difference between premium and tailgate RV sites?
Premium RV sites have hookups. Tailgate RV sites do not. If you book tailgate, bring your own power and water. She’s still fun — she just needs a little more personal responsibility.
Do I need to bring my own tent?
Only if you choose a setup that requires it. If you want less work, go with a rental or glamping option and let somebody else do the heavy lifting.
What’s the difference between glamping and a regular tent site?
A regular tent site is more DIY. Glamping is for the folks who want more comfort, less setup, and more “just walk in and exhale.”
What’s the easiest setup?
Glamping tents, tent rentals, or RV rentals are your easiest options. They deliver and set up your RV or tent — you just enjoy. Very elegant. Very stress-reducing. Very “I refuse to wrestle with equipment on my vacation.”
Can I choose comfort over struggle?
Please do. We support a soft life outside.
Pick your comfort level and pull up.
You do not get extra points for making this harder than it needs to be.
Booking, Pricing & Payment Plans
The practical stuff. Because yes, vibes matter — but so does knowing how to lock your spot in without having to squint at checkout like it’s written in ancient text.
How do I book my spot?
Go to the ticket page, choose your lodging option, and complete checkout. Simple, clean, and no scavenger hunt required.
Can I book with a deposit?
Yes. You can secure your spot with half due now and the remaining balance due later.
Pro Tip: You can add add-ons later. You have until Sept. 15.Do you offer payment plans?
Yes. We offer installments. You can put down a deposit to secure your spot, and your remaining balance date will be shown at checkout. Nice, neat, and adulting-friendly.
What happens after I book?
You’ll get your confirmation details and the next steps you need to prepare. No mysterious silence. No “guess what happens next” games.
Can I transfer my package if something comes up?
Yes. Transfers are available. It’s $35 if you do it yourself through your account and $45 if you need our help. We love you, but admin labor is still labor.
Are refunds available?
All deposits and payments are non-refundable. If you’re nervous about life lifing, purchase protection is worth considering at checkout.
When do prices go up?
Pricing moves in tiers, so booking sooner is almost always the better move. Waiting until later usually costs more and gives you fewer options. That’s not drama. That’s math.
Will this sell out?
Some lodging types move faster than others, especially premium options, villas, cabins, and glamping. If you see what you want, don’t sit on it too long acting mysterious.
Is it worth the money?
You’re not just paying for a campsite. You’re paying for the full experience, the planning, the environment, the activities, the community, and the feeling of being able to exhale for real.
Ready to lock it in?
If you’ve got the info you need, go ahead and grab your spot before your favorite option gets cute and disappears.
Activities, Energy & Weekend Vibes
This is not a “sit in silence and stare at a tree” type of weekend. Unless that’s your thing too. Then sure, that can happen also.
What kind of activities are there?
Expect games, music, community moments, laughs, movement, and signature experiences that make the weekend feel special. This is not “stare at your cooler and scroll your phone” camping.
Do I have to do everything?
Not at all. Some people stay active all weekend. Some chill, wander, eat, nap, and catch the vibe. Both are valid. Nobody is taking attendance at fun.
Is this really adults only?
Yes. Homecoming 2026 is 21+. Grown folks only.
What should I wear for the Homecoming party?
Rep your favorite school, group, fraternity, sorority, or anything special to you. And you can always rep your tribe — Melanated Campout. This is your time to show up with pride and a little razzle if you’ve got it.
What should I wear Friday night?
Bring orange for Friday night. Period. Burnt orange, bright orange, soft orange, “I found this at the last minute but I still look good” orange — all welcome.
What makes Homecoming different?
Homecoming is reunion energy. Legacy energy. The kind of gathering people talk about before, during, and after. It’s the “remember when…” weekend before it even happens.
Is it okay if I’m more chill than turn-up?
Absolutely. You do not have to perform extroversion to belong here.
Can introverts enjoy this too?
Very much so. You can have a great weekend without being the loudest person in camp. Quiet legends are welcome.
Come get this joy.
You do not have to wait until you feel 100% ready to say yes to a weekend that feels good.
Food, Cooking & Meal Plan Questions
One thing about folks — they want to know where the food is. As you should. Joy is better fed.
Do you offer a meal plan?
Yes. The meal plan is $165 per person and includes 6 meals total. That covers Friday lunch and dinner, Saturday breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and Sunday breakfast. Very “I came to enjoy myself,” very “the cooler can rest.”
What meals are included?
You get Friday lunch and dinner, Saturday breakfast, lunch, and dinner, plus Sunday breakfast. That’s 6 meals total. Enough to keep you fueled for dancing, laughing, and making memories you’ll retell dramatically later.
What kind of food is on the meal plan?
The posted menu includes things like burgers, wings, BBQ chicken, fried catfish, breakfast favorites, taco fajitas, pasta, lasagna, sides, desserts, and drinks. In other words: not sad food. Real food.
Are there vegetarian or vegan options?
Yes. The meal plan page includes vegetarian and vegan-friendly options or substitutions on several menu items, plus dairy-free options on some items too. Nobody should be over there eating air and vibes.
Do I have to buy the meal plan?
Nope. You can bring your own food if that’s your thing. But if you’d rather not spend the weekend grocery-managing and grease-handling, the meal plan is a beautiful little act of self-care.
Can I bring my own snacks and drinks?
Absolutely. Bring your snacks, your little treats, your hydration, your “just in case” stash. We support preparedness and a good snack lineup.
Food plan = one less thing to think about.
Whether you cook, snack, or let somebody else handle the meals, the goal is the same: make your weekend easier.
Packing, Prep & What to Bring
Let’s keep your packing list practical and your stress level low. We are aiming for prepared, not panicked.
What should I pack?
Comfy clothes, toiletries, your sleeping setup if needed, a lawn chair, a reusable water bottle, chargers, bug spray, and layers for cooler nights.
Do y’all have a full packing list?
Yes. The New Camper Guide is the move if you want the full breakdown and don’t feel like building a packing list from vibes alone.
Should I bring something orange?
Yes. Bring orange for Friday night. This is not the time to freestyle and then act surprised when everybody understood the assignment but you.
What should I wear for the Homecoming party?
Rep your favorite school, group, fraternity, sorority, or something meaningful to you. And if you want to keep it easy, you can always rep your tribe — Melanated Campout.
What shoes should I bring?
Comfortable ones. You want something you can actually walk around in and enjoy yourself in. Cute is welcome. Pain is not required.
Should I bring cash?
A little cash never hurts for convenience, vendors, or little extras. Cash is still out here minding its business and being helpful.
What should I not bring?
Anything that threatens safety, peace, or the vibe. Follow the event rules and pack like you love yourself and other people.
What should I do in September before camp?
Download the app in September so you can stay in the know. That’s where you’ll want to check for updates, schedule info, and all the little details that make the weekend smoother.

Policies, Safety & Getting Help
We like joy, but we also like clarity. Here’s the part that keeps things smooth and keeps everybody from emailing in a panic at 11:48 p.m.
Are refunds available?
All deposits and payments are non-refundable. If you’re nervous about life lifing, purchase protection is worth considering at checkout.
Can I transfer my package?
Yes. Transfers are available. It’s $35 if you do it yourself through your account and $45 if you need our help.
Is the event safe?
Safety matters here. Follow event rules, respect staff instructions, and use common sense. If there’s an emergency, contact staff or emergency services immediately.
What if I have a question after I book?
Use your confirmation info, your account, or the contact channels provided by the team. You do not have to figure everything out alone.
What if I need help choosing the right option?
That is exactly the kind of question you should ask before stressing yourself out. Reach out and get guidance. We would rather help you early than rescue you from a self-made spiral later.
Still got questions?
No problem. Get the info you need, then come on outside with us.
Anything else you’re probably wondering?
A few last things that don’t always fit neatly into a category, but still matter.
Can I come if I’m not super outdoorsy?
Yes. A whole lot of people come for the experience, the people, and the vibe — not because they’ve been backpacking since birth.
Is this a good event for introverts?
Yes. You do not have to be the loudest person in the campsite to have a good time here.
Can I come with my partner, friends, or group?
Absolutely. Melanated Campout works great for solo folks, couples, and whole crews.
What’s the smartest next step if I’m interested but still nervous?
Read the New Camper Guide, look at the ticket options, and stop trying to mentally live the whole weekend before you even book it. That little overthinking habit? She doesn’t get to drive today.
Final note: download the app in September so you can stay in the know, bring orange for Friday night, and don’t wait too long on lodging if you already know what you want.
