Grab your favorite mug, sis, or better yet, a glass of something chilled, and come sit with me on the porch for a minute. Let’s talk about that feeling. You know the one. It’s that deep, soul-settling sigh you let out when you finally pull into your mama’s driveway or walk into the family reunion and realize you don’t have to "perform" anymore. You can just be.

That, right there, is the heartbeat of Melanated Campout.

People ask us all the time, “Jocelyn, is it really just about camping?” And I have to laugh, because while we love a good tent setup and a crisp morning by the lake, the camping is really just the invitation. The magic is the community. We don’t just host Black camping events; we build a temporary city where every citizen is family. By the time Sunday rolls around and we’re all packing up our gear, you aren't just leaving with smoky clothes and a camera roll full of memories, you’re leaving with about 500 new cousins.

Eight Years of Building the Village

It’s hard to believe we’ve been doing this for eight years now. When we started, we just wanted to see more people who looked like us enjoying the great outdoors. We knew that nature was our birthright, but we also knew that sometimes, those woods can feel a little lonely, or even unwelcoming, when you’re the only one.

So, we decided to change the narrative. We created a space that was unapologetically "Blackity-Black." From the curated playlists that hit every decade of R&B to the smell of seasoned fish frying near the RVs, every inch of a Melanated Campout weekend is designed to make you feel at home. Over the last near-decade, we’ve watched strangers become best friends, solo campers find their "tribe," and even a few "camp-mances" blossom into something real.

We aren't just an event planning company; we are curators of safe spaces. When you join us at Lake Blackshear, you aren’t just a ticket holder. You’re a member of a legacy that celebrates our joy, our resilience, and our connection to the earth.

Why We Call You "Cousin"

You’ll hear it the moment you hop out of your car: "Hey, Cousin!"

It’s not just a cute catchphrase. In our community, "cousin" is a title of endearment and an immediate bridge. It says, I see you, I value you, and you belong here.

For a lot of us, the outdoors has historically felt like a space where we had to keep our guards up. At Melanated Campout, that guard comes down. Whether you’re a pro who can pitch a tent in five minutes flat or a total newbie who thinks "roughing it" means a hotel without room service, you’re treated with the same love.

There’s something transformative about sitting around a fire with 500 people who share your culture, your rhythm, and your history. It’s where the "outdoor events for black adults" label turns into a soul-healing experience. We’ve seen "cousins" help each other back their RVs into tight spots, share their secret-recipe cobbler, and hold space for deep conversations under the stars.

The "Blackity-Black" Nature Vibe

Let’s keep it real: camping in 2026 doesn't have to look like a survivalist documentary. At MC, we do nature our way.

We’re talking about outdoor events for black adults that prioritize comfort and vibes. Want to spend your afternoon on an electric bike exploring the trails? We got you. Want to take a creative break and do some coloring or wellness activities? That’s there, too.

And don’t even get me started on the night vibes. Have you ever been to a silent party in the middle of the woods? There is nothing like seeing a sea of glowing headphones and people two-stepping on the grass under a Georgia moon. It’s the ultimate "safe space" because it’s built by us, for us. You don’t have to worry about being "too loud" or your music being "too much." Here, you are the standard.

Coming as a Stranger, Leaving as Family

If you’re reading this and thinking, "But Jocelyn, I’m coming alone," let me stop you right there.

About 30% of our campers show up solo. By Friday night’s welcome mixer, they’ve already been adopted by a group of ladies from Atlanta or a couple from Charlotte. Our community doesn’t let anyone sit on the sidelines. Whether we’re competing in a high-energy team challenge or just lounging by the lake, the atmosphere is set to "Inclusion."

We’ve watched "cousins" go on to travel the world together, attend each other’s weddings, and support each other’s businesses long after the tents are packed away. That’s the real ROI of a Melanated Campout ticket. You aren't just paying for a campsite; you’re investing in a lifelong network of beautiful, like-minded people.

A Quick Word for My First-Timers (Phase 2 Energy!)

Listen, I know some of y'all are still on the fence. You’re looking at the New Camper Guide and wondering if you can really do this.

The answer is yes.

We are currently in Phase 2 of our planning, which means now is the time to move from "thinking about it" to "being about it." If you’ve never camped before, don’t sweat it. We have rentals available and plenty of "cousins" ready to show you the ropes.

Pro-tip: Don't wait. Our next price increase is hitting on June 1st. If you want to secure your spot in the village without paying those "last minute" prices, grab your tickets now. The group chat is already buzzing, and I don't want you to be the one watching the Recap Reel feeling "FOMO."
